The distance track team traveled to Parkview High School Saturday Feb 11 to compete in the Big Peach Distance Kick Off. In their first meet of the season, both the distance boys and girls teams saw great performances.
Despite only entering 2 out of the 5 events, the girls team won the meeting scoring 44 points! In the 1600, the Lady Hawks were led by scorers Grace Ellsworth (2nd – 5:22.73), Nicole Franklin (3rd – 5:24.90), Royal Delay (4th – 5:30.80) and Reagan Goodwin (8th – 5:50.39). In the 800, the Lady Hawks swept the podium positions taking the first the spots. Royal Delay won the race in a School Record time of 2:23.83. Nicole Franklin finished 2nd in a new PR of 2:26.50 and Grace Ellsworth finished 3rd in a new PR of 2:28.98.
The boys team finished 12th overall and were led by a mix of upperclassmen and underclassmen. In the 1600, the Hawks put 7 boys under 5:00. Senior Udochi Okoro was the top finisher for the Hawks finishing 11th overall in a time of 4:42.30. Following Okoro was Cameron Bensley (4:44.11), Jason Bell (4:51.16), Peter Brooks (4:54.22), Matthew Whritenour (4:57.45), Braedon Bensley (4:57.74) and Elijah Nix (4:58.02). In the 800, the Hawks were again led by Udochi Okoro who finished 4th overall in a time of 2:06.39. Following Okoro was Isaiah Gregory (2:08.34).
The Hawks will compete this Saturday February 18 at the Marietta Distance Carnival hosted by Marietta High School.
