This past Saturday, the Distance Hawks traveled Marietta to compete in the 4th Annual Marietta Distance Carnival. Despite not entering all of the possible events, the Girls finished 3rd out of 14 teams and the Boys finished 5th out of 15 teams.
The girls were led by solid performances in the open events and the relays. Freshman Sierra Wehrenberg finished 4th overall in the 1600 in a time of 5:37 and 6th overall in the 800 with a time of 2:33. The 4×400 team of Royal Delay, Christina Shanahan, Grace Ellsworth and Nicole Franklin finished 3rd overall in a time of 4:20.31. The highlight of the meet for the girls came when they won the 4000m Distance Medley Relay in a NEW SCHOOL RECORD time of 12:44.44! This time is the #1 time in GA and #2 time in the Nation so far this outdoor season.
The boys were also led by solid performance in the open evens and the relays. The top finisher for the Hawks in the 800 was freshman Michael Magee who finished 16th overall in a time of 2:12.09. In the 1600 the Hawks were led by Junior Jason Bell who finished 17th overall in a time of 4:51.70. In the 3200, the Haws were led by Sophomore Peter Brooks and Freshman Noah Hayes. Peter finished 8th overall in a time of 10:44.09 and Noah finished 12th overall in a time of 10:55.90. The 4×400 team of Jalen Shelton, Udochi Okoro, Austin Hogan and Isaiah Gregory finished 5th overall in a time of 3:39.50. As with the girls, the highlight of the meet for the boys came when they won the 4000m Distance Medley Relay in a NEW SCHOOL RECORD time of 10:59.79! They edged out host school Marietta by .02 seconds. This time is the #1 time in GA and the #7 time in the Nation so far this outdoor season.
The Hawks will take the upcoming winter break and weekend to rest and regroup before heading to Marietta on March 1 for a weekday quad meet.
