DALTON, GA – The boys and girls track team traveled to Dalton, Ga this past weekend to compete in the Ronnie McClurg/Dalton Rotary Invitational. In their first invitational of the season, the boys and girls teams both shined taking the 1st place overall team trophies. This marks the second year in a row where the boys and girls won the meet.
The Lady Hawks were led on the track in the spring events by Brandi Lee, Victoria Jackson and Lauren Stenson. Brandi took 1st place in the 100m dash in a time of 12.85. Victoria scored in both the 100m and 200m dash placing 4th (13.16) and 3rd (27.38) respectively. Lauren contributed significant points in both the 200m and 400m dash finishing 3rd (27.38) and 1st (1:01.40) respectively. The Lady Hawks picked up more points in the hurdles thanks to Brandi McGrady and Soleil Bailey. Brandi finished 2nd in the 110 hurdles (16.25) and 1st in the 300 hurdles (49.72). Soleil picked up 3 points in the 300 hurdles by finishing 6th overall in a time of 55.13. The girls were led in the distance events by a strong core of young distance runners. Royal Delay placed 1st in the 800m with a time of 2:23.98. Nicole Franklin placed 2nd in the 800 (2:25.02) and 2nd in the 3200 (11:40.18). Sierra Wehrenberg placed 2nd in the 1600 in a time of 5:25.92. Grace Ellsworth won the best overall female distance runner award for the meet by taking 1st place in both the 1600 (5:25.42) and the 3200 (11:25.79). Grace’s time in the 3200 broke her previous school record of 11:40.09! The 4x100m relay team finished 4th overall picking up a valuable 5 points. In the field events, the Lady Hawks were led by Miriam Miano, Jasmine Gillespie, Jordan De La Cruz, MyCheri Onuzuruike and Mo Bastion. Miriam finished 5th overall in the high jump with a jump of 4 feet 8 inches. In the pole vault, Jasmine and Jordan finished 5th and 6th respectively both clearing 8 feet. MyCheri won the most outstanding field event athlete of the meet by finishing 1st in both the long jump and the triple jump leaping 17 feet 9 inches and 35 feet 3 inches respectively. Her 17 foot 9 inch jump in the long jump is a new school record! Mo Bastion led the throwers in the discus with a toss of 98 feet which was good enough for 3rd place.
The boys were led on the track in the sprint events by Sterling Cathey, Xavier Jenkins, Garrett Shedrick and Jordan McClesky. Sterling contributed valuable points in the 100m and 200m dashes finishing in 3rd (11.20) and 2nd (22.53) respectively. Xavier finished 4th in the 100m dash in a time of 11.37. Garrett paced the Hawks in the 200m and 400m dashes finishing 3rd (22.64) and 2nd (50.12) respectively. Jordan finished 3rd in the 400m dash in a time of 51.90 seconds contributing 6 valuable points. The Hawks picked up more points in the hurdles thanks to Ari McHenry, Chris Williams and Austin Hogan. Ari won the 110 hurdles in a time of 15.55 seconds. Chris finished 2nd in the 300 hurdles in a time of 15.94 and won the 300 hurdles in a time of 40.15. Austin finished 3rd overall in the 300 hurdles in a time of 41.62. The Hawks were led in the distance events by Isaiah Gregory, Udochi Okoro, Chase Korzenok and Cameron Bensley. Isaiah finished 3rd overall in a time of 2:02.33 which is a new PR! Udochi finished 6th overall in the 1600 in a time of 4:46.40. Chase and Cameron ran big PRs of 9:57.51 and 10:05.09 to finish 3rd and 4th overall. The boys 4x100m relay won the meet in a time of 43.44 and the 4x400m relay team finished 2nd overall in a time of 3:36.75. in the field events the Hawks were led by Dustin Ladson, Logan Tillery, Walter Montano, Chris Williams, Jaylen McCullough, Kameron Budram, Kenny Edwards and Darrell Abram. Dustin finished 7th in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet 8 inches. Logan and Walter finished 3rd and 7th in the pole vault with leaps of 12 feet 6 inches and 10 feet 6 inches respectively. In the long jump, Chris and Jaylen finished 2nd and 3rd overall with jumps of 20 feet 7.75 inches and 20 feet 2.5 inches respectively. Kameron won the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet 8.75 inches and Kenny finished 5th overall with a jump of 39 feet 11 inches. Darrell contributed valuable points in the shot put finishing 3rd overall with a toss of 43 feet 6 inches.
The Lady Hawks won the meet with a team score of 151 points, outscoring second place Rome High School(70 points) by 81 points! The boys won the meet with 156 points outscoring Cobb County rival Allatoona (131 points) by 25 points.

The Hawks will be in action this weekend with the Varsity team traveling to New Manchester on Friday and the JV team traveling to Walton High School for the JV Walton Relays on Saturday.
